Deposit Failed: Turn off your wallet Smart Account (EIP-7702)

Disable EIP-7702 for your wallet to interact with Omni.

If you see the error “Your wallet’s smart account (EIP-7702) is blocking this action” when interacting with Omni, your wallet address has a smart account feature enabled that blocks the authentication and/or deposit action.

This article explains why it happens and how to fix it.

Why this happens

Some wallets can upgrade your address to a smart account using a feature called EIP-7702. Depending on the wallet, this may be called a smart account, smart wallet, delegation or Trader Mode.

Omni deposits use a permit signature to approve the transfer of your USDC. While EIP-7702 is enabled on your address, the permit signature can’t be used, so the deposit fails.

EIP-7702 can also cause errors when signing in to Omni with some wallets. If you can’t sign in, the same fixes outlined below apply.

How to fix it

To deposit to Omni, you need to disable EIP-7702 for your address in the same wallet app that enabled it. You can find guides for disabling EIP-7702 across different wallets below.

MetaMask

When using MetaMask, the process for turning off EIP-7702 is simple:

  1. Open MetaMask and go to 'Account details' for the address you use on Omni.

  2. Open ‘Smart Account’ and disable it for Arbitrum.

Rabby

Similar to MetaMask, the process for turning off EIP-7702 for Rabby Wallet is simple:

  1. Open Rabby and go to 'Approvals'.

  2. Open the EIP-7702 section and revoke any EIP-7702 authorisation for your address.

OKX Wallet

Using OKX Wallet, the process is slightly different: You need to turn off ‘Trader Mode’ for your address.

This only works for wallets imported into OKX Wallet with a seed phrase. If your wallet was imported with a private key, follow the steps under “Other wallets” below.

Trust Wallet

When using Trust Wallet, it is not possible to disable EIP-7702. To connect to Variational using a Trust Wallet address with EIP-7702 enabled, you need to export your wallet and import it to Rabby or MetaMask.

  1. First, export your Trust Wallet. You can do this by going to Settings > Manage Wallets > Press ‘Seed Phrase’ > ‘View Secret Phrase’

  2. Install Rabby and import your Trust Wallet address to Rabby using your seed phrase.

  3. In Rabby, go to Approvals > EIP-7702 and revoke the authorization for your address.

When doing this, make sure that you do not share your secret phrase with anyone, including Variational support.

Other wallets

Depending on the wallet you are using, you may need to export your private key and import it into Rabby or MetaMask to continue.

After disabling EIP-7702

After disabling EIP-7702, simply disconnect your wallet, reconnect it and try your deposit again. You should now be able to deposit freely.

Disabling EIP-7702 is an on-chain transaction, so your wallet may ask you to confirm it and pay a small network fee. Make sure you disable it on Arbitrum, the network Omni uses.
